In an apparent computer error, all flights for United Airlines in the United States were temporarily grounded. The couple in the video were a lot calmer than the rest of the angry passengers after finding out their flights were delayed. The Federal Aviation Administration recently attributed this to an, “automation issue” but no additional information is available at this time. Owen Kilmer, Department of Aviation spokesperson, had this to say
???????It was an IT issue and it occurred nationwide. It????????s back up and running with residual delays. We????????re gonna look into the issue and work with our airlines partners to, hopefully, prevent this.???????
The problem was resolved at 9am today but, according to Fran Spielman and Mitch Dudek of The Chicago Sun-Times, “Further delays are likely as United works to clear the backlog of delayed flights…The Chicago-based company had similar computer issues in June forcing a halt of less than an hour, and has experienced technology problems, some causing massive flight delays and cancelations, since it combined the systems of United and Continental after their 2010 merger.”
For those of you traveling this summer stay away from United Airlines or expect the high probability that some mysterious, “automation issue” will delay your flight.
