Microsoft has announced the End of Support date for Windows Server 2008R2 and SQL Server 2008 is January 15th, 2020 but is offering special dispensation for businesses that migrate their 2008R2 server’s or SQL 2008 workloads to Azure.
Further, with the Azure Hybrid benefit Microsoft doesn’t require you to re-purchase licensing to migrate to their cloud, you can use your existing licensing.
