In this very cool video we see how IT can be leveraged to fulfill their mission. They previously had no mobility solution to support collaboration and information sharing between staff members from anywhere in the zoo. A mobility solution would enable employee productivity and allow for the best possible care of the animals.
“In this edition of the Extreme IT Makeover, HP, Microsoft, Intel, and Aldridge Managed IT Services made sure the Houston Zoo had the IT they needed to best fulfill their mission. The zoo received HP ProLiant DL180 Gen9 servers featuring Intel Xeon E5 processors to help manage and operate a new mobility solution, software, and many applications throughout the Houston Zoo.
Before the makeover, the staff had no kind of mobile solution. This meant that important data collected in the field was recorded by hand, or on multiple devices, with no way for the staff to share and collaborate. To help resolve these issues, Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 was installed, allowing the zoo to integrate across their entire system. To further power and drive the mobile solution they so desperately needed, HP Tablets put collaboration power right in the hands of the staff. These tablets will be able to survive real world durability, drops, water, or anything else that might come about from working with animals, allowing the staff to record, and share valuable data, as well as get important information right when they need it.”
After the implementation the Houston Zoo now has the following benefits:
- Real-time tracking of animal information
- anytime availability of animal health history like prescriptions, amount of food, etc.
- A robust, efficient way to manage all these devices and all this information
